About Jesse Fairall:

My parents owned an HVAC company, and growing up, I worked alongside my brother to help the family business. I remember the thrill of finally getting my driver’s license and using product delivery to cruise the neighborhood.

After I received my Master’s in oil and gas in Central Asia, I worked in energy infrastructure and long-range planning. My decades-long career included management for the Defense Intelligence Agency and Royal Dutch Shell.

As I developed my expertise in long-term planning and delivering balanced, research-based recommendations to clients, I never forgot the pleasure of delivering immediate results to my parents’ clients. I left government and corporate life to return to my small business roots, founding Zephyr Environmental Solutions in 2014.

Today, I’m passionate about delivering progressive, intelligent, best-in-class solutions to our clients. I also run and ride motorcycles, owning two but wanting so many more.

Responsive, friendly and helpful. When my AC quit working, I called Jesse at 6pm on a Friday. He called me back that evening and suggested some quick fixes that might take care of it. Unfortunately there turned out to be bigger problems with my AC system, so on Saturday he diagnosed the problem, determined there was a refrigerant leak, and refilled and sealed the leak. Jesse was prompt, professional, and explained everything to my wife as I was out of town for work. After having less than satisfying experiences with two larger companies in town, I am very happy to have found a good HVAC service company in Zephyr Environmental Solutions.

We installed a Daikin Aurora Series maximum heat capability heat pump. We placed it in a corner to maximize wall space for art, TVs, etc and we also hid the outdoor unit behind some bushes to minimize the visual impact.

We offered a selection of replacement options and Trevor selected a modern American Standard furnace and air conditioner replacement. While we had the equipment out, we upgraded the air filtration system, removed some duct bottlenecks and re-sealed and re-insulated the exposed ducts. We were able to clean and reuse the lineset and the furnace vent piping. In the end we had a nice, clean replacement in a tight cellar that immediately brought comfort to Trevor's home.

We discussed the options for humidification and selected a steam humidifier to best meet their desired comfort. We installed the new Aprilaire Model 800 to their system with the necessary water, electric and drain connections and then set the system loose. Within 24 hours, it had raised the humidity level in the house by almost 10% and they reported less dry skin, etc.

Walt opted to replace this system with a 2 ton Ruud heat pump system. We were able to work with much of the existing ductwork to set the new equipment. We made sure that he has two condensate safeties to prevent any damage to the finished space nearby. We also tape sealed any exposed duct seams to keep as much airflow moving through the home!

The furnace functioned well and we recorded good numbers as we compared actual data against the manufacturer specifications. We cleaned the indoor coil and verified proper operation of all the common failure items - inducer motor, igniter, flame sensor, etc. We also checked for carbon monoxide with our low level monitor at several locations within the house to confirm that the furnace and his family is not exposed to CO.

We familiarized ourselves with the system and the zoning controls. We then re-programmed the thermostats to remove the scheduling feature, which would override her set temperature and revert back to a factory standard. Michelle does not use the schedule feature so this was not a loss of functionality. We also removed the batteries from all of the thermostats in the home. These are frequently not changed (most people don't even know there are batteries in many thermostats) and then they corrode. The corrosion can impact thermostat operation and cause problems, we we removed the batteries and cleaned the contacts and the thermostats as thoroughly as possible.

In our evaluation, we discussed the failed indoor fan motor but also took into account system type, age and any other recent service and operational issues. Given the system type and age, we would expect at least another 5 years for this system, so we recommended to replace the motor vs replace the system. With approval, we sourced a new motor and replaced the system. We also performed a complete maintenance - cleaning coils, verifying safe and proper operation - and returned the system to service.

Gary suspected that the older system had a leak and was not cooling as effectively as it had in the past. We washed the indoor and outdoor coils, checked and changed the outdoor capacitor, added refrigerant and a leak sealant (R-22 so we don't want to lose any!) and then confirmed the system was draining properly.

We installed a Daikin ductless mini-split to serve the bedroom. We used a SlimDuct lineset kit to protect the lineset from damage and UV light (it also makes it look good!). And we worked with the electrician to make sure the installation of our unit and his conduit was neat and clean.

Despite our attempts to make repairs, the system would never function correctly. So we worked with our distributor and factory technical advisors to rule out systemic problems and identified the culprit as a faulty outdoor expansion valve. Given the unit's history of repairs and improper function, Zephyr replaced the outdoor unit. We recovered the refrigerant, disconnected and removed the old outdoor unit and installed a new heat pump with a new warranty. We performed all of the standard pressure and evacuation tests to ensure proper function and returned the system to service.

We recovered the existing refrigerant, disconnected the electrical and refrigerant systems and made them safe for the project and then removed two outdoor units so that Pollard could dig a 15 foot pit and remove an underground oil tank and remediate the site. We returned after Pollard's work was complete to reinstall the outdoor units and return them to service.

We installed two single head Mitsubishi ductless systems - one serving the kitchen area on the first floor and a second serving a bedroom on the second floor. These systems provide great heat output, easy operation and maintenance and great efficiency - perfect to make these spaces more comfortable and safe!
